 From the very first note, Kourtyl grabs your attention.
Half way between French rock and American heavy metal, this young band pulls you into a totally original musical world. High-energy rock, technically daring, yet graceful and tinged with yearning, underpins a vocalist singing in French about an imaginary, poetry-filled world.
Brought together in 2001 by 4 graduating school kids, Paulo, G, Pierre et Marcus, Kourtyl developed rapidly. The band was booked for a few gigs (Gibus, Triton, l’Alternat…) after 3 demos were produced between September 2002 and October 2003. This platform allowed them to progress to a higher level (EMB Sannois, La Scène Bastille, New Morning, Elysée Montmartre…) and even to get on the bill with the ultra-cult Magma.
Pierre, the bass player, quit the band in 2004 to work on other projects, and Philsub came into to handle the bass role on the first album.
Having learned a great deal during 2005 by immersing themselves in the studio, Kourtyl is now coming back to live work with a new bass player, BRIAC, fresh from completing his own first opus, a project funded by the FCM and ADAMI, and recorded by Francis Linon, well-known as the front-of-house engineer for Gong and, for the last for 30 years, Magma.
